Types of Data

All data maintained by the city is considered public unless it falls into one of the below categories:

Data on individuals 

• Private data
• Classified as private by statute, federal law, or temporary classification
• Can be given to
• Data subject
• Individuals within the city (city officials or employees) whose job requires access
• Outside agencies authorized by state or federal law to access data
• Entities or individuals given access with written direction by data subject
• Confidential data
• Classified as confidential by statute, federal law, or temporary classification
• Can be given to
• Individuals within the city (city officials or employees) whose job requires access
• Outside agencies authorized by state or federal law to access data

Data not on individuals

• Nonpublic data
• Can be given to the data subject if there is one
• Protected nonpublic data
• Cannot be given to anyone

Fees

Up to 100 pages (black and white)

• $0.15/page for 1-sided copies
• $0.30/page for 2-sided copies

Over 100 pages

• Actual cost
• Employee cost of searching and gathering data and making copies
• Mailing information
• Other costs
